The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has said that Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 3.9 percent in the current fiscal year 2024-25. This is much lower than the average growth estimate for South Asia. ADB has forecast an average growth of 6 percent in South Asia.

In the Asian Development Outlook report released on Wednesday (April 9, 2025), ADB has forecast the growth of Asian countries for 2025 and 2026. ADB has estimated that Bangladesh's GDP growth will be 5.1 percent in the next fiscal year (2025-26).

The ADB had earlier forecast a growth of 4.3 percent for the current fiscal year. Referring to Bangladesh's first quarter (July-September) GDP estimate, the April edition of the ADB's forecast said that the economy expanded at a slow pace during this period.

It said that political instability, natural disasters, labor protests, and high inflation have impacted the overall growth of the Bangladesh economy. However, growth is expected to pick up in the next quarter as the manufacturing sector is stable.
