Apparel Outlook Report

The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) successfully hosted its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on August 16, 2025, at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. The sessions were presided over by BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem.

The 25th AGM of BKMEA underscores the knitwear sector’s resilience and forward-looking strategies at a time when Bangladesh’s apparel industry faces evolving challenges in global trade. By aligning with the Trade Organization Rules 2025 and strengthening partnerships, BKMEA continues to play a pivotal role in sustaining Bangladesh’s position as a leading apparel exporter.


During the EGM, Executive President Fazle Shamim Ehsan presented proposed amendments to BKMEA’s Articles of Association, aligning with the government’s newly introduced Trade Organization Rules 2025. Members unanimously approved the changes, marking an important step toward strengthening organizational compliance and governance.

President’s Call for Unity and Growth

Opening the AGM, President Mohammad Hatem emphasized the importance of collective efforts in advancing Bangladesh’s knitwear sector. He expressed gratitude to all members for their active participation and continued support.

Annual Review and Progress Updates

Vice President Mohammad Rashed outlined BKMEA’s major activities over the past year, including collaborative projects with government bodies, development agencies, and international partners.

He provided detailed updates on ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing competitiveness in the Bangladesh apparel and knitwear industry.

Financial Report and Approvals

Vice President (Finance) Morshed Sarwar Sohel presented the audited financial statements for the fiscal year 2024–25. He also proposed the appointment of a new audit firm and announced the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Both were unanimously approved following member discussions.

Members engaged in a lively question-and-answer session, raising concerns about global trade challenges, export opportunities, and BKMEA’s strategies. The leadership team, including the President, Executive President, and Vice President (Finance), responded to queries and shared insights.

Former Leaders and Special Guests Address the Gathering

Former BKMEA President Fazlul Haque underscored the need for a business-friendly environment and urged the government to simplify trade procedures.

Md. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank were present as special guests. Both highlighted the government’s initiatives to support trade and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Bangladesh’s apparel exports. BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem presented commemorative mementos to the guests.

In his concluding remarks, Senior Vice President Amal Poddar thanked participants for their contributions and invited them to join the closing dinner. The session was moderated by BKMEA Director Minhajul Haque.
